I am interested in majoring in Art History and minoring in Consumer Behavior at the University of Southern California. After getting a taste of working in the art world during an internship at a premier gallery in Dallas this past summer, I am inspired to pursue museum curatorship or the art business as a career. When I look at the offerings in these two areas, I am thrilled. From the apprenticeship opportunities with museums in the area, to the amazing study abroad programs, it is as if USC has tailored their major to my exact expectations and beyond. I can already imagine myself sitting in the "LA Now" course or in the "Medieval Art" class.
Beyond the classes, I am excited that art will be part of my every day experience at USC, just as it was during my childhood when I lived blocks away from the Dallas Museum of Art in downtown Dallas. As an urban (rather than suburban) kid, I practically grew up at that museum. I loved their whimsical exhibitions, and was always mesmerized by the newest piece on display. At USC, I will be surrounded by art and the greater riches of Los Angeles are there just steps away. I mean, there is an ancient Greek statue of Dart Aphrodite sitting in the campus center. How much more immersed in art can I be when studying next to exquisite ancient art?
