Caltech students are often known for their sense of humor and creative pranks. What do you like to do for fun?
Formula One racing, a global motor racing sport barely known in the US, is MY spectator sport. It is truly a contest in strategy, engineering, and flat out speed. Most of the American racing enthusiasts are more oriented towards NASCAR, but only in Formula One do you see a car racing down a straightaway at an incredible speed and, the very next second, to be able to slow down to a snail’s pace to negotiate a hairpin turn. It requires extraordinary engineering to develop a car with that sort of flexibility, and it takes an exceptional driver to be able to make those split-second decisions without crashing (personally, I would consider myself equal to this sort of driving caliber, considering my incredible ability to escape my school’s parking lot at lunch unscathed—honestly one of my proudest accomplishments).
I have been to four Formula One Grand Prix’s thus far, always wearing my favorite team’s colors (Ferrari, of course). By the end of college I plan to have attended both the British and the Italian races. Maybe I will even be able to broaden the American Formula One base by convincing a couple of Caltech friends to go with me.
